Chip Newton
Chip Newton is a guitarist and instructor known for his work in classical and jazz guitar. He has been playing since 1988, holding a bachelor's degree in Music Education from Concord University and a master's in Music Performance from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Newton has performed globally, including in the US, Mexico, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary, and was a featured soloist at the Elon University Jazz Festival in 2012, 2015, and 2017. He was also performer for the Blowing Rock Jazz Society concert series. He recorded four original classical guitar pieces by composer Jonathan Romeo in 2020 at Elon University’s Arts West studios, noted for their folk-like quality and expressive range. He also participated in a 2019 guitar workshop in Benicia, California, with renowned jazz guitarist Martin Taylor and fingerstyle virtuoso Peppino D’Agostino, performing duets and engaging in lessons and jam sessions. He is now the Assistant Professor of Guitar at East Carolina University, where he teaches undergraduate students as well as directing the Jazz Ensemble – B.
